Easter in Mallorca 2027: processions, Pollença and how to see them

In 2027 Easter Sunday is 28 March. The Maundy Thursday and Good Friday processions in Palma, the Davallament in Pollença and the weather that week.

In 2027 Easter Sunday falls on 28 March: Maundy Thursday is the 25th and Good Friday the 26th. What draws people in Mallorca those days are the processions through Palma's old town, above all the Sang on Thursday, and the Davallament in Pollença on Friday at nightfall, when the figure of Christ is carried down the 365 steps of the Calvari by torchlight.

The 2027 dates and public holidays

Holy Week 2027 runs from Sunday 21 to Sunday 28 March. In the Balearic Islands' 2026 calendar, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday were public holidays; the 2027 calendar hasn't been published yet, but if it follows the same pattern they will be 25, 26 and 29 March.

This is late March, not real spring. AEMET gives Palma airport average March highs of 17.5°C and lows of 5.2, with 4.5 rainy days. The processions are at night: bring a warm coat.

Palma: the Sang on Thursday, the Sant Enterrament on Friday

In 2026 the procession of the Sant Crist de la Sang left the church of l'Anunciació, on Plaça de l'Hospital, on Maundy Thursday and went along the Rambla, through Plaça Major and Cort to the Cathedral before turning back.

On Good Friday the Sant Enterrament left the basilica of Sant Francesc, crossed the old town and ended at the church of Nostra Senyora del Socors, where the burial ceremony takes place. That same morning, at the church of the Hospital General, the Devallament of the Crist de la Sang is held; the one in the Cathedral is considered a gem of medieval Mallorcan theatre.

Routes are published a few days ahead each year and are worth checking: the centre closes to traffic and the car has to be left well away.

Pollença: the Davallament on the Calvari

It draws the biggest crowd of any Davallament on the island and is one of the oldest, dated to 1650. At nightfall on Good Friday the figure of Christ is taken down from the cross in the Calvari chapel and carried in complete silence down the 365-step stairway, lined with cypresses and fourteen three-metre crosses, to the church of the Mare de Déu dels Àngels. The only light comes from the brotherhoods' torches.

Pollença is in the north of the island, and that night it draws more people than anywhere else. Going with a driver solves the hard part: arriving in time, no hunting for parking, and getting back late without driving.

Fitting it into a trip

One way that works: on Thursday afternoon, Palma in four hours with the Cathedral, the Almudaina and the old town, then the Sang procession at night; on Friday, a free day and a mid-afternoon drive to Pollença. Palma in four hours with hotel pick-up starts at €550 for one to three people and €620 for four to six, per vehicle. The Pollença run is booked as a day with a driver: from €550 for four hours and €110 per extra hour.

What Easter does not offer is a yacht: the fleet's sailing season runs from May to October.
