Mallorca in April and May: the real weather and what each month is for

The weather, in AEMET's numbers

AEMET's climate normals for Palma airport (1981-2010) give April an average of 13.6°C, with highs of 19.8 and lows of 7.4. Around 34 mm of rain falls over roughly 4.8 days, and the month gets 234 hours of sunshine.

May is almost four degrees warmer: 17.5°C on average, 23.7 high and 11.3 low, 32 mm over 3.8 rainy days and 283 hours of sun. For comparison, July reaches 31.2°C.

In practice: in April, a jacket for the evenings and a spare day in the plan in case it rains. In May, long mild days when you can be out from breakfast to dinner.

April: the month for the mountains and villages

With highs under 20 degrees, April is the best month for what wears you out in summer: up to Valldemossa and Deià, down to Sóller, Palma on foot. Easter 2027 falls on 28 March, so April starts after the Holy Week crowds.

A private day in the Serra de Tramuntana lasts five hours with hotel pick-up: Valldemossa, Deià, Son Marroig and the Torre des Verger viewpoint, from €830 for one to three people and €910 for four to six, per vehicle. Palma in four hours, with the Cathedral, the Almudaina and the old town, from €550.

What April is not for is a long day at sea: the fleet's sailing season starts in May.

May: the yachts come out

The sailing season in Mallorca runs from May to October. May is the opening, with more sunshine than April (283 hours against 234) and well before the July and August crowds. A crewed yacht starts at €1,936 a day in our reference fleet, fuel extra.

On a week-long trip, May lets you mix the two: three or four days on land with a driver, and one or two at sea, ideally in the second half of the month.

When to book

Villas and yachts for May are best settled over the winter, while there is still a choice. Private days with a driver need less notice: send us the date and the number of people and we confirm availability and a firm price within 48 hours.
