The best time to sail Mallorca, month by month
15 May 2026 · 5 min read
The sailing season in Mallorca runs from May to October. July and August are the busiest and priciest months; late May, June and September give you quieter coves, warm seas and lower prices. Those shoulder months are the most comfortable window for a charter without the crowds.
The season, May to October
Six months of comfortable sailing. Between May and October the sea settles, the wind stays manageable on most days and the daylight stretches, leaving you ample time to anchor, eat aboard and head back to port at your own pace.
Outside those months the weather turns unpredictable and many marine services wind down. If you want a full week aboard or some island hopping, plan inside that window. Crewed charters run the whole season, so you never need a boat licence in any month.
June: the best balance
Warm water, long days and coves still empty before the summer rush. In June the Serra de Tramuntana is at its finest, and stops like Sa Calobra or the Sa Foradada viewpoint can be enjoyed without a queue of boats waiting for a mooring buoy.
It is the month we recommend to anyone who wants the Mallorcan summer without its downsides: rates below peak, restaurant tables easier to book and anchorages where you can still choose your spot.
July and August: peak season
These are the two months of highest demand, most heat and steepest prices. The yacht fleet books up weeks ahead, and the best-known coves of Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera — Ses Illetes, Cala Saona — fill up by midday.
In return you get guaranteed sun, warm water and the island at its liveliest. If you travel on these dates, book your yacht and your table early: the island's Michelin-starred restaurants ask for two weeks or more in advance. Setting off early and anchoring away from the busy spots makes all the difference.
September: the regulars' secret
The sea holds the summer warmth, the wind tends to be steady and the coves clear out the moment August ends. For many regular sailors it is the best month of the year: the water is still warm enough to swim and booking pressure drops sharply.
It is also a good time for quieter outings such as Cabrera, the maritime-terrestrial National Park south of Mallorca. You need an anchoring permit from the Balearic government — we arrange it — and it is roughly 3 hours away by yacht or about 12 minutes by helicopter.
October and the shoulder months
October closes the season with days that are still warm but a little shorter and a more variable sea. This is the time for single days rather than long weeks: a day out from €550 to make the most of the last calm coves before winter.
If quiet matters to you more than the buzz, the shoulder months — late May, June, September — beat July and August on almost everything: fewer boats, better prices and the same scenery. High summer only wins if you are after the atmosphere at its most animated.
What is the best month to sail Mallorca?
June and September are the most balanced months: warm seas, long days and quiet coves. July and August offer the most reliable heat but with twice the boats and the highest prices of the season, which runs from May to October.
Can you sail Mallorca in winter?
The sailing season runs from May to October. Outside those months the weather is unpredictable and many services wind down, so for a week aboard or some island hopping it is best to plan within that six-month window.
When are the coves least crowded?
Late May, June and September. In those shoulder months the water stays warm and the good weather holds, but most visitors cluster into July and August, so the coves and anchorages are far more open.
Do you need to book the yacht ahead in summer?
In July and August, yes. The crewed fleet of 11 yachts books up weeks ahead and the best days go fast. June and September leave more room, though it always pays to book early to choose your boat and dates.
